Indian women entrepreneurs are making big achievements in all the fields – be it IT, Finance, Fashion, Health or Banking. We have our pride Indian women who are successfully managing their personal and professional commitments. It makes me feel so proud to write about those who have successfully given a new direction to our society from their sheer handwork and determination. Although there are many, I will be talking about only a few in my today’s blog, and we will continue to discuss others in the following blogs.
If we speak of the fashion industry, then I am sure one name that will immediately come to our mind is RituBeri. Early in the nineties, she was the first person who globalised Indian fashion Industry. She was the first to create fusion in the fashion world by introducing western designs in Indian wears with her skills and knowledge. She was the first Asian designer to head a French fashion brand, Jean-Louis Scherrer, in the year 2002.
Apart from this, she launched The Luxury League, a non-profit organisation, to promote creativity & innovation in the luxury industry of India. She is also working as an advisor to the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of India.
Another most famous personality, a well-known Indian entrepreneur is VandanaLuthra, founder of VLCC Health Care Limited (VandanaLuthra Curls and Curves) – beauty and wellness conglomerate represented in Asia, the GCC and Africa. She is also the Chairperson of the Beauty & Wellness Sector Skill Council (B&WSSC), an initiative that provides training under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal VikasYojana scheme. She was honoured with the ‘Padma Shri’ in the year 2013 by the Government of India.
She has also won the ‘Asian Business Leaders Forum Trailblazer Award’ in the year 2012 and The Enterprise Asia Women Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2010. She has been ranked 26th in the distinguished annual Forbes Asia 50 Power Businesswomen in the APAC region.She was also featured in the prestigious Fortune magazine’s annual listing of the ‘50 Most Powerful Women in Business in India’ for the consecutive five years from 2011 to 2015.
Richa is one of the young entrepreneurs who launched Zivame.com, an online lingerie store. She has reshaped the lingerie market in India and given a unique platform for women to shop their intimate wear. Richa did her engineering from BITS Pilani in 2002 and then acquired a Master’s degree from the NarseeMonji Institute of Management Studies in 2007, and worked with a retailer and global technology company before starting Zivame.com.
RichaKar started her job from a small office place in the year 2011 and reached to the turnover of 9 million US Dollars in a couple of years. Zivame.com now becomes one of the leading online lingerie stores with more than five thousand styles and approximately more than fifty brands.
Anita Dongre, Founder & Designer – Global Desi
Celebrity fashion designer, Anita Dongre famously known as the founder of Global Desi, has achieved a niche place for herself.
She has given a new designer yet affordable wear to the Indian women today. She has a brilliant understanding of the fashion industry and young women apparel needs. Her brand house is very popular in the Indian high street markets and gave an ample choice to the buyers within their budget.
She has estimated turnover of 100 million US Dollar making her a young millionaire at a young age. Her designs are also adorned by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton during her India visit in 2016 which is no less than a privilege.
